10 PSU Library Budget Overview
Jill Emery
The fiscal year 2024-2025 general collections budget for the University Library is $3,952,841 from our education and general funds. This money is divided up between electronic resources which can be databases, data sets, journal packages, journal subscriptions, one time purchased ebooks & streaming media and the purchase of physical materials which are generally DVDs, newspapers, print magazines & journals, and print books .
Here is the general breakdown between the two:
Online/Electronic Resource Budget: $3,842,236
Physical Materials Budget: $95,605
In the past five years, we have seen an increase due to lower inflation and then decline in our annual acquisitions budget with higher inflation:
FY2020: $3,906,847
FY2021: $4,059,081
FY2022: $4,071,902
FY2023: $4,165,387
FY2024: $4,036, 205
FY2025: $3,952,841
and the increase in our annual inflation rate from providers:
FY2020: 2% (due to pandemic de-valuation)
FY2021: 2% (due to pandemic de-valuation)
FY2022: 3% (due to pandemic de-valuation)
FY2023: 3.5%
FY2024: 4%
FY2025: 4.5%
We may find that we need to cut further into collections that renew closer to the end of our fiscal year. In addition, we have not recovered the funding from the online student fee to support streaming media or other online resource provision and are working on ways to maintain our current streaming media content.
Our goal is to fund collections at the macro level: online and tangible resources as opposed to the micro level: at a discipline or subject area accounting in order to leverage our funding as best possible.
