Describing With the Verb SER

We can use the verb SER to describe essential characteristics of a noun (a person, place, animal, object, idea or concept). Essential characteristics are characteristics that tend not to change based on someone’s current situation. For example, characteristics like one’s name, profession, personality, physical traits, origin, and nationality are all considered essential characteristics. See the examples below

Práctica escrita 5.2

Using the examples above as a model, choose two people you know and describe them with the verb SER. Give their name, profession, three personality traits, three physical traits, their origin and nationality.

Expressing Existence with “HAY”

HAY is the present form of the verb HABER which can be used to express the existence of someone or something. HAY is the equivalent of there is/there are; therefore, we use HAY for both singular and plural objects.

Práctica oral 5.3

¿Qué hay en tu habitación? What’s in your room? Use a dictionary if needed to mention 10 different objects that are in your room. Use the recording tool below and follow the written example.

En mi cuarto hay muchos libros, un micrófono, una cama, una silla, dos almoahadas, una cómoda, una ventana, un clóset, una computadora y una bicicleta.
