Why Use Web Sources in your Research?

Using the internet for academic research can be tricky.  On one hand, you can find credible information from government entities, such as city and state websites, research from local organizations and nonprofits, and news sites.  On the other hand, anyone can create their own website and publish anything they want, whether it’s credible or not.  This means you need to increase your scrutiny and critical evaluation of the information you find.  Be especially critical of using homemade websites, blogs, and social media in your research because they are more likely to contain biased information.  There will be more on evaluating web sources in a moment.
