Welcome!

We are happy to welcome you as a member of the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp (MHKC) community.  You have joined thousands of Portland State University students who have served in this capacity.  The role of counselor is significant — you help make Camp happen.  We hope you look at this experience as a learning opportunity and also a way to positively impact the life of another human being.

Participating as a counselor at Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp will broaden your perspective and your perception of yourself and others.  The hours are long and the duties are full spectrum but, like all of life’s opportunities, the more you give the more you will grow.

Your position as a counselor goes beyond fulfilling course requirements. You will be instrumental in enriching the lives of campers as well as other counselors through caring, friendship, and encouragement.  Many campers and their families await their week of Camp with anxious anticipation and hold fond memories of their counselor for years.

This manual will help prepare you for your experience and will be a great resource while at Camp.  Read it prior to coming and bring it with you to Camp.
