Appendix: Sample Daily Program

Daily Program

If you ever went to camp, you may remember raising the flag in the morning, singing in the dining hall, and trying something new in one of the activity areas.  Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp is the same.  Our activity areas are a chance for campers to try new things and test their abilities.  We sing songs that attempt to get the crowd going and allow campers to be the center of attention as they raise the flag and wait for the current meal to become ready. Activities are designed for the camper.  Counselors help encourage, support, adapt and model participation in each area.

Flag

The flagpole is the place we congregate prior to breakfast and dinner.  In the morning we raise the flag and in the evening we lower the flag.  This is a time where we sing songs, make announcements, and allow the assigned group time to set up for the current meal.

Counselors should be aware of the dietary restrictions of the camper(s) they are paired with and monitor them at each meal.  The dining hall (Fanning Hall) can get pretty noisy due to the amount of people in a concentrated area.  The noise level can be over stimulating for someone with hyper noise sensitivity.  Monitor the camper’s behavior for signs of anxiety.  Some campers may prefer to eat outside on the back deck tables or front patio benches.
