The subjunctive is found most frequently in subordinate clauses. In fact, it got the name “subjunctive” because it mainly appears in subordinate clauses. There are three types of subordinate clauses: nouun clauses, relative (or adjective) clauses, and adverbial clauses. Both the indicative and the subjunctive can appear in these clauses.
