2nd Linux and Vim Exercises in Levels

  1. This manual is used for three courses: CS162, CS163, CS202, and CS299 (CS299 is for practicing data structures).
  2. Level 1 exercises are designed for students new to linux and the MCECS systems. Students enrolled in CS162 should work through level 1 exercises during the term. And, transfer students new to PSU should also work through the level 1 exercises.
  3. Level 2 exercises are designed for students who have already worked through level 1 exercises (in CS162). Students enrolled in CS163 should work through level 2 exercises once the level 1 exercises are completed. Students who have taken CS162 at PSU can begin immediately with level 2 exercises.
  4. Level 3 exercises are designed for students who have already worked through level 1 and 2 exercises (in CS162 and CS163). Students enrolled in CS202 should work through level 3 exercises once the level 1 and 2 exercises are completed. Students who have taken CS163 at PSU can begin immediately with level 3 exercises.
  5. In summary
    • CS162 students begin with level 1 exercises.
    • Transfer students new to PSU also begin with level 1 exercises.
    • CS163 and CS202 who would like a review of the MCECS systems should also start with level 1 and/or level 2 exercises.
    • Otherwise, CS163 students should begin with level 2 exercises.
    • And, CS202 students should begin with level 3 exercises.
    • CS299 students should make sure to cover all three levels if CS162, CS163, and CS202 courses have been taken elsewhere (not at PSU).
